There is so much explore in Belgium, with many opportunities for Belgium day trips to explore different regions and cities. Whether you’re taking day trips from Brussels or basing yourself somewhere else, you’ll likely find a few great spots to explore.
This video is a mix of three different day trips to three different cities in Belgium – Bruges, Ghent, and Antwerp.
Belgium day trips to Bruges, Ghent, and Antwerp
Bruges, Ghent, and Antwerp all have their own distinct vibes and cultural identities. Each city deserves at least a day to explore and Belgium itself at least a week to visit if you are traveling in the area.
There is so much more we were unable to see and do, but I hope this video gives you a good overview of what the cities look like and some of the amazing experiences you can expect.
The journey takes us through the medieval waterways of ‘the Venice of the North’ seeing Bruges by boat, then onto the historical university city of Ghent – wandering the cobbled streets and seeing the incredible architecture. Finally we head to Belgium’s Northen province to explore Antwerp, walking shopping streets and 16th century alleyways.

- Don’t miss in Antwerp: Central Railway Station, Grote Markt Square, Rubens House, Antwerpen Zoo, Steen Castle, Church of Our Lady, Carolus Borromeus Church and Square.
- Don’t miss in Ghent: St Michael’s Bridge, St Nicholas’ Church, Graslei, Gravensteen Castle and Square around it, Belfry of Ghent, St Bavo’s Cathedral, small and lovely Serpentstraat street.
- Don’t miss in Bruges: Basilica of Holy Blood, Grote Markt Square, Church of Our Lady and its backyard, Minnewaterpark, Begijnhof Abbey and its courtyard.

Another option…
Another, less popular option, is to take a trip to Hainaut. This region isn’t short of Belgian culture, which boasts several UNESCO World Heritage-listed properties, areas and constructions. To add to this, Hainaut is also home to historical events on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
